As I mentioned a few days ago I am participating in the 31 Day Challenge to a better blog sponsored by The SITS Girls. Today's challenge was to do some mind mapping to come up with new blog post ideas. And wouldn't you know it that I am suffering some major writers blog and its all my sisters fault.
Yup that's right my sister is to blame for my problems. How you might ask? Well I had this brilliant funny cleaver blog idea and I was actually writing it when my sister told me I couldn't blog about it. WHAT!!!! Everyone knows that everything is fair game for blogging. Iif you send me a text message then there is a 50:50 chance it will end up on my blog, possibly even months later. In addition any thing I find funny is going to end up on my blog and this was really funny.
But my sister has asked me not to write my post and this caused me to freeze and stumble over any other posts. So much so that when I had a funny relationship issue I tried writing about it, it came out all wrong and was not the least bit funny. Then I had an idea on how to expand a past post but once again I couldn't get it to work on paper.
I have jotted down some notes and ideas so I can come back to ideas but what I really need is some ideas on how to move forward past the block. Please help with your suggestions on getting past writers block.
Writer's block is evil! I host a writing workshop each week that may help as well as participate in some other I link to if you want to check it out. dishwaterdreams.com
ReplyDeleteTry to do something else. Don't think about writing and you'll get an idea!
ReplyDeleteI find the best thing to do is just write. And if you find it funny, but someone else doesn't, try to write it in a way that won't offend that person. Or make the person anonymous or someone else. Good luck! Full Disclosure: I've pissed off a few friends and family members, so you may not want to take my advice.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the mind-mapping exercise from today's assignment? I used Bubbl.us and it was fantastic. Just take some of the keys points from what you originally wanted to post and expand from there. Here via SITS31DBBB and commenthour.
ReplyDeletehello, I hate writer's block! came over from the SITS # commenthour
ReplyDeleteI just take a break from trying to write something when I feel like that, and then as I'm doing something else or commenting, ideas come to me then.
ReplyDeleteI find that if I step away and take a break, it all just sort of comes back naturally. Stressing about it makes it worse.

I keep a notebook and write down all of my blog post ideas as they come to me or even start them up in my drafts. Getting past the block is hard. I personally think my life is funny and crazy at times but when I want to write about it I freeze up. It definitely happens to everyone. Good luck getting past it!

I usually get passed this in one of two ways:
ReplyDelete1. Keep writing. If it doesn't even make sense, just keep writing. This is the more difficult way to work passed it.
2. Read. Usually someone's writing eventually triggers something to write about.
I remember one particular incident of writer's block. At the time, I was a newspaper reporter and I thought I had written every way I could about a subject.
Then it suddenly dawned on me: I was making a living by writing. It was something I always wondered if I could do and I was doing it (even if it wasn't a great metropolitan paper).
So, in a roundabout way, this is option No. 3. Remember your readers. Knowing someone is out there interested in what your writing could be a way to renew your urge to write.
I just wrote a post for this last week for our link post assignment! Here are 4 Ways to Get Your Blog Writing Going by me :)

I hope it helps!!
I've had a hard time recently writing posts. Between stress and computer issues some days I feel doomed. Usually, if I'm having trouble with words I resort back to photo posts. Now, with only my iPad that wont allow me to post picture I find I am forced to seek words. Somehow, today it worked in my favor. I may try it more often.

Is there any way you could write the post and just file it away and possibly publish it later when your sister has forgotten all about it? Maybe then you could move past it? Hope you find something that helps!
ReplyDeletei wish i could help but i constantly suffer from writers block :( #commenthour
ReplyDeleteI'm the type of person that has an opinion about *everything* !! Are you that type of person, too? If so, then my remedy for writer's block is to pick any of your random thoughts -- or items in the room -- and start writing as though your just chatting casually to a friend about it.
ReplyDeleteActually, I liked that your post was about writer's block! And how your sister changed your writing plans. It was interesting!
By the way, I enjoy mindmapping, too! Do you happen to use a software? or do you do it by hand?

Writer's block... argh, the enemy of my soul. For a blogger, it's like death. Seriously. However, the only real relief that I've found to get past this issue is simply stepping away and being engaged with something else at the time. I mean, it's the only real way to get past it. If you focus on it and try to force the words and the ideas to come, they won't... or they'll come out in such an excruciating trickle that you just wish that you hadn't tried at all. So, good luck with everything, and don't worry; the words will come when they're ready. :)

I usually go with what is persistent in knocking on my brain. LOL It could be a story, a memory, a conversation.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I struggle with writers block too, so anything I write on my blog tends to be completely spontaneous! Such a pain when nothing is going on in my life! #commenthour
ReplyDeleteI have half finished block. I come up with great ideas, start writing, and then in the middle my mind just craps out. I started running, it clears my head and allows me to focus on what I am writing. And I turned off the TV, lol.

I find that just stepping away and getting out and about can help with writers block. I also like to head out to the grocer store and read some of the magazine covers and tabloids. You can get some great ideas reading these.
