From Wham to The Black Keys in 30 Years

You ever wonder what the sound track of your life would sound like. Would it be based on my musical taste or would it be more symbolic. Can we choose our soundtrack or are we stuck with what songs are  popular at the time.

If someone was listening to my life right now I hope it would go something like this:

When I was 8 I got my 1st radio/cassette player and I was all about Michael Jackson, Wham and Culture Club. I worshiped at the shrine of Cyndi Lauper.

But soon, about 10-13 years,  I was all about Debi Gibson and Tiffany. I bet I could still sing all there songs. Go ahead quiz me. Then for about 3 months I was all about The New Kids On the Block. And a bizarre addiction to Garth Brooks music (I still have all his CDs)

Then one day (when I was in the 8th grade) I heard a song, Poison by Alice Copper, and I was quickly converted from a pop rock fanatic to hair band lover. My hair even got bigger. I morphed to worshiping at the hot male singer shrine: Brett Michaels, Jon Bon Jovi, Kipp Winger all the boys I loved.

But soon I was a very angry teenager and I had moved on to Metallica and Guns n Roses. I had issues back then and often a sore neck.

By the time college came we had all moved on to grunge but for me this phase lasted just long enough for me to appreciate Pearl Jam for life and I moved on to Indie Rock and Lilith Fair. Followed by an obsession with Jane's Addiction and the Punk Rock of that time.

I then decided I loved GooGoo Dolls (okay I still do), Lenny Kravitz, and Matchbox 20. This phase was followed by a brief 18 month addiction to techno which went hand in hand with my post college clubbing days.

Then came the days of indecision,  I listened to the radio but nothing ever reached out and inspired me. I don't think it was the music at the time I think it was me, I was back to being angry and lost.

But once again I found my bliss and fell for Panic at the Disco, Fallout Boy, 30 Seconds to Mars and My Chemical Romance. Now I see inspiration all around and I am loving Mumford and Son, Middle Class Rut and The Black Keys...boy do I live The Black Keys.

And that my friends is how you go from Wham to The Black Keys in 30 years. It's a little like musical multiple personalities isn't it.

What would your musical sound track sound like?

  1. lol! I read Wham and saw work at home mom. Guess you can tell what my life it like. But now I get it - Wham, like in the group. Ok, we had very similar tastes in music. We must be the same age!
