Is it Your Lucky Day????

Today is my lucky day...yup that's right Friday the 13th is my lucky day.

Seriously, how could I not love this day?

  1. Its Friday and that's the end of my work week so that completely rocks.
  2. 13 is my lucky number.
  3. Its a day full of superstition and mystery.
  4. What better day to stay home and watch horror movies then the day that has a whole franchise of horror movies named after it.
I am not the only in my family that likes the number 13...my dad and youngest brother also like the number. Although I am not sure we like it for the same reason.

My home town*
My dad and brother like it because its the exit to the small town where they live, its a town pride thing. My brother was born and raised there. In fact the only sibling I have that wasn't born there is my baby sister (yes that includes me). My mom was born there, my grandparents, I think even some great-grandparents were born there or at least in the general area. I have had family in the valley since it was a bunch of pioneers in covered wagons settling there.

But that's not why I like 13. I like it because its a kick ass number. Its a prime number and I find them to be so soothing. 13 is such a strong and soft number at the same time. First you have the number 1, it is such a strong stand alone number. Its straight and commanding. Then you have the number 3 all soft and curvy and unassuming. When you have them together side by side they are a powerhouse

Its entirely possible I have put way to much thought into the number 13. I put a lot of thought into things that do not matter at all. Like the letter M which I love but the letter W annoys me.

Some days I make it easy for the future team of people who will be taking me off to that padded room.

*Thanks to my dad who after I called and told him I needed this picture for my blog...went out of his way and took the picture.

Denial the River in Utah

I don't know about you but I have a bad habit of pretending something doesn't bother me or that a problem doesn't exists or sometimes I have more money than my bank says I have in my account.

Most of the time its little things that are not a big deal.

Right now I am ignoring the fact that I have to put air in one of my tires every few days (sorry dad).

Not a good thing to ignore I know but I am very busy and need my car. So every morning I check the pressure in my tire and then go to the gas station on my way to work if it is to low. I have convinced myself that this is taking less than time than going to the tire place I purchased that tire from. Even though I know they would fix it...I have only had that tire for 3 months (thanks dad).

I figure as long as it is "safe" to drive it can wait a few more days. Like until Friday when I have more time.

Now that I have written and read this post I realize I am being very irresponsible...I am going to have to take time to fix my tire tomorrow.

Its good I blog.

Boys Named Mike

Throughout the course of my life it has come to my attention a time or two that Michael is some times used as a boys name.

The first time this was really clear to me I was in Jr.High, one day we had a substitute teacher who during roll call (where it was obvious all the kids were switching names) got to my name when I answered with a clear and polite yes. She stopped looked at me and said if you are going to change names you should at least change names with someone not a boy. I told her that my name is Michael but she insisted that I was lying. I was almost in tears when in a moment of unity against the evil tyrant all the kids in my class keeping saying her name is Michael. Still not believing me she wrote a note to our teacher saying I was the ring leader in a revolt against her.

While in college every year when filling out the paperwork I would have to fill out additional paperwork explaining why I don’t have to register for the draft. Not just the 1st year but every year, at some point don’t you think someone would remember hey she’s a girl but no!!!! In fact one year I received some mail from the draft board with my draft card I guess someone didn’t realize that the F in the Sex column meant female...I am not even going to imagine what they thought it meant. They requested I look over the information and return it with any corrections. I quickly changed the M in sex to F send it back and thankful never heard form them again.

And in more recent months both my sisters are dating boys named Mike. Okay so maybe the Health Nut sister is not dating a Mike more like went out on a date with a Mike but my Baby sister has had an on again off again romance with Mike (they are two different Mikes...apparently its a very popular name for boys). She claims she tried to call him Michael but it wasn't working for her.

I am not sure what’s wrong with these people because everyone knows Michael is a girl's name just ask my parents.

Who Am I?

Yesterday someone said they thought I looked like my sister. Really? My sister is beautiful (actually both of them are) but I have never thought I look any thing like my sisters. I look a lot like my dad but after further investigation I guess I do look a little like my mom and my sisters look like my mom so I guess I look a little like my sister.

But this started me to think who to I act like my dad or my mom. I explain my personality by claiming I am  50% like my dad and 50% like mom. and they divorced before their 5th wedding anniversary. That's why I am a girl full of contradictions, However, this does not explain some of my more shall we say interesting personality traits.

Like my Love Language being Gifts. No One in my family is all about the gifts. But I am!!!! I can not think of a better way to say thank you or I'm thinking of you then to buy you a gift. Seriously I could list every ones love language and they are all acts of service and time spent and 1 or 2 words of affirmation.

But I came out of the womb with OOOHHH you spent 5 cents on this ugly sticker because of me that so sweet. Really I don't care what you give me as long as you can tell me me it made you think of me I am more than happy to accept it.*

Despite the evidence otherwise (like I look like my parents) I have declared on more than one occasion that I was adopted or switched at the hospital. My mom just rolls her eyes and explains again how after 24 hours of hard labor (I am sure she is exaggerating) and the fact that I was the ONLY baby in the hospital at the time she is sure she is my mother. Some days I even feel bad for my parents maybe I should go buy them something.

*Unless you are The BF then you need to stick to the very detailed and specific list I give you.

If you like it share it
