I am Thankful

What is it about November that has everyone posting on what they are thankful for on Facebook? Oh Yeah its probably because Thanksgiving is in November.

Whatever the reason here is my list for the first week + 1 day of November.

  • Day 1: I am thankful for The Savior who gives me strength when I am weak and hope when I am in despair. Through Him all things are possible.
  • Day 2: I am thankful my parents. The biological, the steps and the honorary ones they have taught me some bad, some good and some very bizarre things. I love them all.
  • Day 3: I am thankful for The BF, with him I can be weird, a little or a lot crazy, often lazy, and he rarely complains about my half finished projects.
  • Day 4: I am thankful for indoor plumbing. I know its shallow but it makes live so much easier and comfortable.
  • Day 5: I am thankful for my sisters. With them I can laugh over nothing, fight over everything and occasionally share shoes!
  • Day 6: I am thankful for a job that allows me to help people and make a difference in my corner of the world.
  • Day 7: I am thankful for the 'Pseudo" step-kids. They keep me on my toes and laughing.
  • Day 8: I am thankful for Bram Stocker, with out him there would be no Dracula, no Interview with a Vampire, no I Am Legend, no The Strain and no Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Happy 165th Birthday Bram!!!!

Thankful Thursday - The Money List

Today is Thursday and I am making another Thankful Thursday list.

If you have read my blog you know my lists are sometimes...interesting. Yes I am thankful for my family, my house, having a wonderful job....blah blah blah but I am also thankful for the more mundane things. I am a big believer in being thankful for all the little things in your life. I think those are the things that get you up and going every day.

So today I am making a list of things that save me from myself.
  • I am thankful Starbucks is far from my house and way out of my way. If Starbucks was closer I would stop by every day on my way to work. And although I think this is a wonderful idea my budget sees Starbucks as a treat rather than a daily thing.
  • I am thankful that we have a T.J. Maxx in my area so I can be a maxinista and wear very cute clothes at very affordable prices.
  • I am thankful that I have rather small feet. This allows me to shop in the kids section for some types of shoes..which saves me a lot of money.
  • I am thankful that I have a library that I can borrow books from but also one that allows me to borrow ebooks and buys books I ask them to buy. Again saving me lots and lots of money.
There is my list of the week.

What are you thankful for today?

My Bizarre Thankful Thursday

I am so glad that today is Thursday.

I need to focus on the good in my life.

So here is my rather bizzarre list of reasons to be thankful.
  1. Ipod speakers in the bathroom that drown out the noise of my family.
  2. That the “ pseudo” stepdaughter was mad she throw up my yummy spaghetti when she was sick.
  3. Dogs to trip over in the middle of the night.
  4. A cat that follows me every where including the bathroom.

Thats todays list....What bizzare things are you thankful for today?

A Shallow Thankful Thursday

This morning as I was rushing around getting ready for work I had a dilemma. Its one that probably happens to more than one person today but it caused me to be very reflective on my drive to work.

It went something like this...

A friend of mine that happens to have abnormally small feet like I do cleaned out her closet and donated some of her hardly ever worn shoes to me....and when I mean some I mean about 20 pairs (her shoe obsession makes mine look like a part time hobby).

This morning as I was dressing in my subdued understate but still stylish outfit I couldn't decide which pair of my new fabulous shoes to wear. There were two that I wanted to wear...one was a fancy, night on the town pair that I thought would be fabulous with my understate work cloths, a little bit flash to liven up my outfit. The other pair were also wonderful but also understated like my outfit but 4 inches high.

So as I barreled through the canyon trying to decided on which pair I wanted to wear (most of the new shoes are confidently in the truck of my car...I am slowly "sneaking" them in to the house) I realized that this is a really shallow problem. Millions of people don't have shoes to wear or clothes and they rarely have enough food to eat. There homes are often destroyed by bombs and war and they live with daily hardships that I can never imagine.

After acknowledging that I decided that it was okay to be Thankful for my blessings even they very very very shallow ones.

So today's Thankful Thursday is all about the thinks we are thankful for but don't admit out loud.

  • My Closet (and trunk) full of Shoes: I have many many many pairs of shoes. I fell in love with shoes at a young age. I am not sure how young but I do know at some point instead of buying me one pair of new shoes for school, my mom wouldn't tell me my budget and let me figure out how many pairs I could get for that amount. There were years my budget didn't allow for a lot of shoes (college) and years that I bought ugly shoes (those high heel loafers wore in the early 90s with short skirts(thanks Ally McBeal), its like we were hooker librarians) but I always had a closet full of shoes.
  • Hair Product and Styling Tools: I have had a fascination with hair since at least the 7th grade when I decided that my hair need to be BIG..I mean really big. I had a whole routine (gel, mouse, hair spray, blow drying and curling iron) went into getting my hair that big and although I have cut all my hair short...I still uses a lot of product not to mention the love I have for my fancy expensive flat iron.
  • My Bed: When I first started dating The BF I mentioned that I didn't find his bed very comfortable...In fact I had his bed. Eventually he bought a new, I got to help pick it out. When I moved in I turned it into an oasis full of comfy pillows, expensive and incredialbly soft sheets, blankets that make you want to curl up and never leave.
These are a few of the shallow things I am thankful for...what are some of yours?

To Be Thankful or Not To Be Thankful this Thursday

Today is Thursday and I am not feeling Thankful. Everyday I wake up and try to be grateful for the wonderful blessings in my life. I go through a list of people and things but today I can only think....UGH (I am betting this is because I am tired....I really hate being tired).

It all started last night (not really but this is kind of funny) when I was curled up next to The BF (this part is true) and we were watching a TV show about a man that killed his wife and three children (really inspiring I know). As the show was ending and I was feeling all secure and happy I thought to myself. "I am so lucky. I never have to worry about The BF killing me and folding my body up in a suitcase and throwing me off a pier to hide me." (Seriously this was my thought). Right after I had this warm fuzzy thought about The BF...the jerk scared me and not on accident but purposefully startled me. And then he laughed....and when I told him what I had just been thinking he laughed even harder.

Can you believe it?

So today I am going to list things I am often thankful for but occasionally not so much.

  • The BF: While he is a great guy and mostly wonderful on occasion I am not enamored of him... see biking story and above paragraph.
  • My Sisters: Like most woman with sisters I love them a lot but periodically I cry out to God asking why I could not be an only child...see closet story.
  • My Brothers: I don't often write about my brothers....in fact I don't think I ever have (I will have to fix that) but like my sisters I love them and sometimes wonder what bad thing did I do in a past life to deserve this torture.
  • And last my hair: what is it about my hair that some days it wont do a thing and other days (like today) it looks amazing.
So on this Thursday what are the things that you are thankful for but every once in awhile make you want to pound your head (or maybe their head) on the wall.

I am Ready for My Nap

Today I woke up tired?

I am sure that I am not the only person to wake up this way.

I know that there are a lot of people who woke up tired today.

There are people out there that have tragedy and trials that are much worse than mine.

And they have real reasons to be tired.

I am tired and cranky and my reason is lame and unimportant.

And because I know that it is just the weather, which is not all that bad just constantly changing, that is keeping me from sleeping I am going to stop complaining now. Instead I am going to make an extreme effort to be happy and cheerful without any additional stimulants (coffee...I want coffee).

Check out the great flowers on my desk...they may be contributing to my over all feeling of ick (hello allergies) they look so nice I don't care.

Okay I cant think of anything else right now to enjoy but I am going to be happy today even if it kills me or someone else. I may need a nap first.

Is it Really Thankful Thursday Already?

I am not a spring chicken anymore. I'm not exactly on my death bed either. Although I do feel like I am today.

I am going to have a busy busy day. Its is going to be a very full work day and then at some point I have to drive to Salt Lake City to go pick my uncle up from the airport, after that its back home for quality time with The BF and the "pseudo" step-kids...this is not helping me feel any more energetic.

In fact I am more tired than ever. Especially now that I am looking at my work to do list. When did it get so LONG???

To be honest I have no idea why I wrote some of these things down. I really need to start writing down complete sentences rather than just a few key words. I cant make sense of what I was thinking about 5 minutes ago let alone what I was thinking about 24 hours ago.

Enough of the pity party....its Thursday and its time to be Thankful.
Uncle Willie

  1. My Uncle Willie is coming to visit (hence the trip to the airport).....YEAH!!!!
  2. I have had a lot of work place validation this week from the those who make the big decisions.
  3. My wrist is starting to feel better.
  4. My hair looks amazing today (which is good I am getting my picture taken for my ID badge).
  5. I'm wearing pink and that always makes me happy.
  6. I lost 2lbs.

Wish me luck!!!!

If you like it share it
