My birthday is in 4 days.
Yup in 4 days I will officially be a year older.
I know its exciting and fun and you are thinking...Happy almost birthday Girl Named Michael.
Thanks for the birthday wish.
But I am not excited for this birthday.
Which is strange because I am that girl that likes to celebrate her bday. I start dropping birthday gift hints months in advance. I get all giddy with the idea of birthday cake (or cupcakes because I am not a fan of cake). I relish in the happy birthday texts, calls and cards.
And its not because I am turning 37. But when did that happen. 37 really???? I don't feel 37...I feel 27 or at least I act 27, which is the same thing.
But this year I am a little sad.
My grandma that passed away shared the same birthday with me. So instead of my giddy light head happiness that accompanies my bday I am a bit melancholy and moody. We never did anything special on our shared day but I tried to always call and talk to her. But for the last week when I think of that day I want to cry and I can barely talk about it with out crying. As I sit here tears are gathering in my eyes and I am fighting the urge to sob. (If I was home I would give into this but sitting in the office I feel I should control it a little.)
In fact yesterday when The BF was trying to figure out how many people would be at my party (he was ordering my gourmet cupcakes) I told him I didn't want a big deal just a quite lil gathering with him and The "pseudo" stepkids.
This caused my co-worker to stare at me in utter shock. I think she is watching my closely waiting for the inevitable nervous brake down.
I swear I am fine. I just want some peace to reflect and gather up all the pieces that are scattered.
The strange thoughts and adventures of a loud mouth small town girl full of contradictions.

Dear Aunt Michael
Yesterday I got the following letter in the mail:
Dear aunt Michael
Thanks for the book!
I had been waiting forever
to get that! I've finished
it and I couldn't put
it down! I also liked
the 13 dollars in there!
Thanks!
Its a Thank you note from my nephew for his birthday gift.
I love to read or hear the words Aunt Michael!!!!
I love being an aunt.
I work hard at being a good aunt and trying to find out what my nieces and nephews want and are into.
I think I do a good job. Luckily most of them like to read so a book with money makes a great gift.
Finding the right book is sometimes a challenge but I enjoy the challenge.
To my Sisters and Brothers please have more kids!!!!!!!

Let Them Eat Cake
Last Thursday did not start out as a good day for me. I was still not feeling well from my recent bout of stomach flu (more on that later). So I was not happy about getting up and going to work but did anyway.
On the drive to work I almost headed back home on several occasions but pressed on knowing once I had completed a few tasks I could go home early and curl back up in ball.
Since I was early for a meeting I ran to put gas in the car and decided to wash my windows when I flipped up the windshield wiper the plastic blade part came off...WTH!!!!!!!
Not having time to deal with it right than I went to my meeting, when I left the meeting and was driving back to the office the engine light in my car came on....Are you serious!!!!!
I was supposed to go to a farewell lunch but I was just not feeling it. I was planning on skipping it to go home early but everyone including The BF was telling me I should go but the idea of sitting around eating pizza was not sounding fun at all.
But I didn’t want to be rude. So I figure I can go pretend to eat and then after 30 minutes slip out unnoticed.
I drive to the luncheon the whole time stressing that the engine light is still on sit down start talking to people and wishing that we could move this along so I can leave when all the sudden The Ex-wife/friend places a cake in front of me that Said "Happy Birthday MJ, Good Luck Adam".
Apparently the reason everyone was so adamant that I should attend this farewell party was because it was in part a little surprise party for me organized by The Ex-wife/friend.
So I pushed away the pizza and starting eating cake. After all if you are going to be sick you might as well eat something you really like so at least you are enjoying something...right.
And just when I thought I could sneak away (I was grateful and surprised but remember the stomach flu) I giant box is placed in front of me. Now I am excited because I love gifts and this box was monstrous with pretty blue stripped wrapping paper. Which turned out to be Christmas wrapping paper because on the other side it was covered in snow flakes....I love reversible wrapping paper.
My life is often good...bizarre but good.

I tear in to the box and discover a bunch of children’s clothes. Okay I don’t have kids but I was told to keep digging and at the bottom I find a smaller box from Amazon. I immediately knew what this was it was a Kindle.
That’s right all my friends had contributed to get me the one gadget I fantasize about.
So thank you Liz, Penny, Karrie, Stephanie, Annette, Rae, Kevin, Andrea, Jayce, Sheyanne, Lyn, Carl and Anonymous (whoever you are). Add to it the box of books I got from my favorite cousin Dia and this birthday looking to be one of my favorite bday’s and its not even until Friday.
It ranks right up their with my 9th birthday when I had a cabbage patch kid cake and I got my first Ghetto Blaster (remember those), Michael Jackson's Off the Wall and Thriller cassette tape, the Soundtrack to Footloose and a Michael Jackson doll dressed in his outfit from the Thriller video.

Looking Back at Me
Around this time of year I start getting reflective and start pondering the meaning of life. What does it all mean? I wonder about the direction my life is taking. I know pretty deep stuff for my blog
But lets be honest mostly I am wondering about what The BF is getting me for my birthday and how did I manage to make to the age of almost 36?
After I ponder my "advance" age, I am back to wondering about what The BF will get me for my B-Day (its best not to dwell to long on the age thing). Last year he got me a gift card to the local (now closed) Borders then took me shopping to pick out books. It was awesome he carried my basket and was patient as I picked up book after book and spend more time then I should have trying to decide what books I wanted and then when I went over my budget gave me more money. He is a good guy.
However this year I am not sure what he will do. I have mentioned several things and even offered up a list of choices. He has a tendency to wait until the last minute and then buy jewelry which is good I like shiny things but I want something he spend time thinking about. Is this wrong? Am I selfish?
At almost 36 should I be so self absorbed. Probably not and I don’t think I am all the time I just think on your B-Day gifts should be personal. It’s the one day a year it gets to be about you and people say "Hey I am glad you were born."
Oh crap I just thought about how old I will be in less than 30 days, I am going to go to something drastic now.

I Promise To Be Good
Its possible I have died and gone to hell. I'm not sure how I have deserved the fate I am currently living. I know God does not give us more than we can handle without His help but the Man Upstairs and I are seriously going to have a discussion when we meet. I have had the weekend from HELL. The kind of weekend that reminds me why its good to be childless and to pray that menopause comes early for me.
On Saturday after we got very wet at the local Pumpkin Festival with the kids we decided since its muddy and cold lets go to the Haunted Hollow. Nothing says fun like going to a Haunted Hollow with a 12 year old and 5 year old. Once again I don't have proper clothing so I had to borrow a jacket but I did get a good pair of shoes. (It doesn't matter if they are the only practical shoes I own). So here I am surrounded by hay AGAIN walking through a Haunted Hollow (which was actually very well done) holding the hand of The BFs 5 year old daughter while she freaks out at all the scary people jumping out and yelling at us to get out of the Hollow. When she is not scared stiff she is hiding behind me. And the 12 year old is walking through with his ears covered cause he doesn't like loud noises. At one point the 5 year old actually jumped into my arms. After we "escaped" she asked if we can go again. Of course that wasn't enough they then wanted their pictures taken with the pioneer scarecrows at the entrance. Are you serious???
On Sunday my sister decided we would celebrate my nieces birthday at the most horrible place for an adult to be...CHUCK E CHEESE'S. Apparently my sister hates all the people in her life. There is no place more horrible for a single adult to be then Chuck E Cheese. Its full of children running around on a sugar high trying to get to every arcade game and ride possible before running of tokens. Its left to the parents to hold tickets won and keep track of shoes, socks, jackets and any other thing the child has decided to drop in their wake. Not being a parent you would think I was excused from participating in this fun activity. Nope being dad's Girlfriend and an Auntie means everything gets handed to me and I am expected to keep it all straight. The worse part was the giant mouse (see Hickory Dickory...OMG Its A Mouse.) I don't like people in costumes that cover their faces and I really don't like people who dress as giant mice. (Yes that means you Mickey Mouse)
So what I am left asking myself on this Monday after the carnage, is what did I do that was so horrible that I am now in hell? And would I change anything known this is where I would end up? I don't think I would. The look on my nieces and the BF's kids faces was all worth the torment I know face.

Me in the Corn Maze
FRIDAY: THE CHILDREN OF THE CORN LIVE!!!!
After a lovely steak dinner The BF decided that he wanted to take the kids to a corn maze. Being me I was not the least bit prepared to be outside after dark. I had no warm clothing and as usually did not have any proper shoes. This however is not my major concern, I can borrow a sweatshirt and hat and I am willing to sacrifice a pair of cheap shoes to entertain the kids. My concern was that I HATE corn mazes and scarecrows. This was not always the case and it has nothing to do with seeing Children of the Corn the movie. I saw that when I was very young and other than helping me to become a very twisted woman it had no effect on me at all. I use to love corn mazes especially during October when they are haunted. I love being scared and being lost in a corn maze. I use to drag people to them all the time. But I read this book (see Books Books and more Books) that caused me to be freaked out by corn mazes and scarecrows for the rest of my life. In the book the killer was killing people and then hanging them in corn fields as scarecrows. Rather freaky I know. Now driving by a corn field traumatizes me and being in the corn field after dark was making me woozy and light head. Plus it was at night and I was very disoriented the whole time. Did I mention the bales and bales of HAY? No!!!!! I am allergic to hay and even though I was in the corn maze I came home (the BF's house) covered in hay. Causing me to have massive breathing issues all evening.
SATURDAY: SCREW SLEEPY HOLLOW WE HAVE HAUNTED HOLLOW
Nothing scary. YET!!!!
SUNDAY: OMG ITS A GIANT MOUSE!!!!
Chuck E Cheese
